We all want to be Champions.

You’ve probably never considered yourself a “Champion of People,” have you? A champion of a project or a team is the person in charge of overseeing it, making sure it meets deadlines and outcome criteria, and ultimately, overall, ensuring the projects success. People need champions too. As a Supervisor/Manager/Department Head/Entrepeneaur, that is what you are - the champion of your people.

As a champion, it's your job to highlight the skills, abilities, and talents of your people and make them stronger. It's your job to figure out how to support a person to be their REAL best at work. It's your job to know how to lead them and keep your people motivated, focused, on target and ready.

That's a different way to think about supervisory duties, isn't it? Yes, yes, yes, being a supervisor is also about disciplinary actions, difficult conversations, performance improvement plans, and managing conflict, too. But truly, as a champion, isn't your energy best used when focusing on building an employee's strengths?
